A baryon is a particle that consists of three quarks.

There are 6 different quarks: up, down, strange, charm, top and bottom (although your spec only requires you to know about the first three).

See if you can spot a car registration plate that has three letters that could be a baryon (check whether it exists by typing the combination into google).

Below are images of reg plates I spotted recently, email me pictures of any you spot!

neutrallambda.jpg

Neutral lambda = up, down, strange (uds), net charge is zero, its mean lifetime is 2.6x10-10s and it has a rest mass of 1115.6MeV/c2

dblbottomxi.jpg

Double bottom Xi = bottom, bottom, down (bbd), its mean lifetime is unknown, it has a net charge of -1 and its rest mass is also unknown.
